I completed the 54-miles of mountaineering in 36 hours with a light-weight pack and a fast evening’s sleep at Cow Horn Pond. The Cranberry Lake 50, known in climbing circles because the CL50, circumvents the amorphous and superbly charming Cranberry Lake. On the southern end of the loop, the path ventures into the rugged 5 Ponds Wilderness area, then parallels the beautifully winding Oswegatchie River.
