My Winter Backpacking And Bushcraft Gear (2)

BackpackingRecently I’ve posted examples compiled by others which feature ultralight gear lists. The final one I provided identified how an ultralight weight will be obtained at comparatively low price. It was however accurately identified by some readers that all of those gear lists are three season lists, i.e. for temperatures right down to 32F (0C). This is not an uncommon phenomenon. Even many experienced ultralight backpackers, take into account ultralight gear to be reserved for 3 season use. For winter use, the heavy gear once once more comes out.

The journey begins…the weather report was scorching with sunny skies so in fact once we arrived on the trail head on Saturday morning it begin’s pouring rain! The plan was to take the Escarpment path to the Batavia Kill Trail and camp by the junction of the Batavia Kill (yellow blazes) and the Blackdome Trail, (purple blazes). With trusty raingeer donned we started on the Escapment Path on the other side of Rt 23.

This 4-day journey passes via 3 of the High Sierra Camps. Travel from Tuolumne to Vogelsang Move to Merced Lake then on to Dawn and out by Cathedral lakes. This route captivates each hiker with the splendor and fantastic thing about the panorama of every Excessive Sierra camp we go to. Each night time is backpacking tenting. We don’t stay in the Excessive Sierra Camps.

That is no minimalist’s pack… although at a svelte three lbs 4.6 oz the bag delivers loads of features and room at a typically minimalist price tag (on sale at $168 as of writing). While every effort was made to maintain the pack weight down, the Drakon provides up nothing on weight bearing performance and rugged reliability. Marmot knows that fit issues… is the whole lot.

You may be essentially the most comfy by having one pair to put on on the trail and two pairs for sleeping. There is nothing worse than going to bed with chilly, wet, dirty socks. Not solely will it assist preserve your sleeping bag cleaner, but little moist toes can preserve you up all night time. Yes, I have watched the solar come up, as a result of colder toes than Julia Robert’s character in Runaway Bride.
