The Country Club of Newberry was founded in 1922 by a handful of devoted residents that have been seeking a private facility to name their very own for social gatherings, golf, swimming, and finally tennis. At that time there have been just a few other golf facilities in the middle a part of South Carolina.
Harvey Penick graduated from Austin High College and became ACC’s Head Golf Skilled. Harvey’s affiliation with Austin Country Club spanned eighty two years. He began as a caddie at the club’s authentic Hancock location when he was eight. Later, he turned shop assistant; then assistant professional. Harvey taught golf for seven a long time and coached the University of Texas golf team for 33 years – main the College to 20 Conference championships.
