I dove mainly in the Pacific Northwest, in Puget Sound and regularly within the San Juan Islands. The water temperature, presently 52, fluctuates about 5 levels yr around, is barely murky in heat climate, with plankton blooms, clearer in the winter. Nothing like diving within the tropical areas. The currents are fast, and unpredictable. In the San Juan Islands, there are areas where a number of currents collide and you HAVE to grasp these, and be greater than prepared physically and mentally.
